I find it ridiculous that on every counter top in every food service establishment you will find a tip jar. There has to be a reason for the tip jar boom. I would be embarrassed as an owner of these places to have a tip jar. It is basically saying that you are a cheapskate and are not paying your workers enough and as a result they need to put a jar, bucket, carafe, or whatever decorative money holder on the counter.
I have no problem tipping people that live on tips, i.e. bartenders, cab drivers, waiters, delivery guys, massage therapists, ballgame ushers, and so on. You're telling me that when I walk into Starbucks and they hand me a large coffee (I refuse to say venti) without even making it the way I want it, they want me to tip them. If they actually put the milk in and stirred it they still would not get a tip. For all you tip junkies out there, it's called doing your job.
